I loved getting to see many of you at church this morning. It was a great Sunday! I am so proud of all the different choices you are making during this fast to put God first and to press into Him. As I shared this morning, fasting disconnects us with the world and prayer connects us with God, so try out the “A’s” (Admiration, Apologize, Appreciate, Ask) to connect with God this week. If you were not there, you can check out the podcast at dcmetrochurch.org.

I encourage you to fill out the 10 things that you are believing God for in 2010 by next Sunday and place the card in a place that you will see regularly like your bathroom mirror, the refrigerator, or in your Bible. I recommend you to share these 10 areas with at least one other person.

Prayer Point: Please pray for the leadership at DC Metro and their families- I am so thankful to have an incredibly dedicated and talented group of staff and directors to serve along side as we build God’s kingdom in the DC Metro area together! Pray for God’s protection and direction as we seek Him for all that He desires to do at DC Metro in 2010.

Day Six of the Awakening Fast!

Day Six of the Awakening Fast!

It is day six of our corporate fast, and I am excited about what God is doing. For all of you that filled out cards last weekend with a commitment to the fast, get ready to see God do incredible things in your life as you press into Him. As Hebrews 11:6 says, He is the rewarder of those that diligently seek Him! The DC Metro staff and I have been praying over all of your cards this week. If you weren’t there, you can jump in with us tomorrow at the 9:30 or 11 am service. I am excited to share the Word that God has laid on my heart for us.

One of my heroes in the faith, Bill Bright, clearly articulates the power in fasting, “Fasting with a pure heart and motives, I have discovered, brings personal revival and adds power to our prayers. Personal revival occurs because fasting is an act of humility. Fasting gives opportunity for deeper humility as we recognize our sins, repent, receive God’s forgiveness, and experience His cleansing of our soul and spirit. Fasting also demonstrates our love for God and our full confidence in His faithfulness.” Go God!

Prayer Point: Please join me in praying for where God wants to lead us this year as a spiritual family. 2010 is going to be a milestone year for DC Metro as we continue to allow God to lead us in His mission of building a God-first culture in the DC Metro area.

Getting Pumped About Starting 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Start the year 2010 spiritually strong by joining us in a 21 day season of prayer and fasting. As a church, we have seen increased salvations, breakthroughs and miracles as we put God first at the onset of the year. This year, as we unite with hundreds of pastors, churches and ministries all around the world, we will harness the power of praying and fasting together.

Whether you’ve fasted before or if this will be your first time, Awakening is designed so that you can participate at any level. Fasting tips, resources and tools, including information for kids and youth are available at http://www.awake21.org.  I have also found a great souce of information from Campus Crusade For Christ.  Their website has many resouces that will help you to maximize your fast both practically and spiritiually.  You can check their resources by clicking here.

I am getting pumped about this fast as I know that together we are going to see God do amazing things as He Awakens Us To LIFE once again…

Awakening: 21 Days Of Prayer & Fasting

To begin the New Year, I want to invite you to join with us for “21 Days Of Prayer & Fasting.” DC Metro Church will be participating in this season of prayer and fasting with over 500 churches across the nation.  From January 10th – January 31st we will set aside a season of prayer and fasting to seek the Lord and to:

  • Believe God for answered prayer to our specific needs
  • Declare our dependence on God in every area of our lives
  • Ask for forgiveness for our sins and the sins of our land
  • Pray for the completion of the Great Commission
  • Invite the Presence of God in our church and our lives
  • Cry out to God for revival in our generation and throughout the DC Metro Area

Our passionate prayer is to ignite people, young and old, with a passion for Him throughout the DC Metro Area.

The Bible encourages us to seek Him until He comes.  Hosea 10:12 says, “Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until He comes and showers righteousness on you.”

For information on fasting, check out this great website from a legendary authority on fasting, Bill Bright.  www.billbright.com/howtofast

Get ready for an incredible 2010 as we sacrificially set aside this time at the beginning of the year to regain & grow in our focus on Jesus.

Go God,

Merry Christmas – Confessional?

Christmas Confessional:

Sure pumped about Christmas this year, but that is only what I wish I was blogging about today…  Lately I have had cause for much reflection on the real reason for the season, Jesus! Are you surprised?  This reflection has been prompted by my personal tendency lately to stay as ridiculously busy a possible.  I thought that I would take a classic “few days off” and already I feel busier than ever, I mean who really takes “time-off” when they take “time-off?” (Ok forget I said that…)  One example of my frantic busyness was last night, when I was so very sick around 10pm.  I was so sick that I could not even go to sleep.  I was coughing too, and did not want to wake Taryn or the boys up, so what did I do?  I got up and started working till the wee, and I mean wee, hours of the morning!  Hilarious I know…

Sad but also very true is the fact that only two weeks ago, I remember sharing a point in a Christmas message at church that this is the exact area (busyness) that caused the “Innkeeper” (You remember him, “there’s no room in the inn.”) To Miss –> Jesus. What can I say, most of those messages that the Lord gives me to preach are really just for me…  Ok maybe you too…

Ok, so it’s in situations like this that I am always reminded that the real reason I am so busy is that I am trying to do everything on my own instead of letting Jesus be who He really is – God.  I Confess.

Merry Christmas,

David

PS – Can You Relate?

Good Will?

Good Will?

Great day in DC today…  We had services at church yesterday, and so far the Sunday we have affectionately called “Blizzard Sunday” has been a great reference point for who we are as a DC Metro Church Family…  (Only three churches in the DC Metro Area that I know-of were open – ps – all mobile church too!!! Go God!)  To sum it up, I would have to say that we are some serious Die-Hard’s for Jesus!  I know this sounds a little 70’s (and maybe a  little Bruce Willis too…), but hey I guess I am a product of that decade, and it is truly where we all want to be when it comes to our relationship with Christ, right?

For the blizzard itself, as far as I can see, it has brought Christmas out of people…  I have seen so much “good will” on the streets of the city…  People helping each other get out of the snow, stopping to smile at each other as they slide all over the roadways, non-verbal confessions of personal driving issues…  This “good will towards men” has got me pretty fired up as this kind of abnormal community is refreshing and so needed in a city where the non-verbals coming from most vehicles during a given work week are, well lets just say that they are not quite “G” rated, if you know what I mean – MEAN!

Its so odd to think that the stuff that has brought Christmas’s – “Good Will Towards Men” out of people is hardship. Telling of our Lord and our walk of faith isn’t it?

Ti’s the season for Good Will Towards Men…

Church Open!!!

I know questions of church open? or closed? are rolling around in everyone’s head so let me assure you right now – Church Is On! awww yeah… just a side note: We never cancel church (mostly because we love it!) but also because the theater management has assured me that the parking lot will be cleared for services and the sidewalks will be nice and salty!

So no worries – just be sure and bundle up! This party is gonna be a cold one… Go God!

on another note, All this snow has got me thinkin…

This morning the first car I saw roll down my street was that of a postal worker as I was quickly reminded of their motto “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these coriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”.

After reviewing their motto, I remember thinking that it sounds a lot like a motto about delivering the gospel out of the book of Acts 20:24 “…complete the task that the Lord Jesus has given me -the task of testifying of the gospel of God’s grace.”.

Talk about get me fired up for CHURCH tomorrow! Can’t wait to see you all @dcmetrochurch tomorrow! It’s gonna be cold, I mean cool!

Go God! pd
