Isaac is 2!!!

Firetrucks make for a Fun Birthday!

Today we had a great lil’ birthday for our son Isaac…

He turned two today and we celebrated with his favorite thing, Firetrucks!

We invited the Alexandria City Fire Department to make a stop by our home today and they graciously did (thanks again you guys!), and Isaac benefited greatly from the visit of one of their firetrucks as well as one of their ambulances…

PRESENTS?

With the help of some grandparents, Isaac also got a new swingset!

Needless to say, he was pretty pumped… Just look at that pre-slide diving jump (what form!)

Thanks to all who made Isaac’s b-day one to remember…

Growing Spiritually Together…

Growing Spiritually Together...

This past weekend we all took a step in the right direction as we purposed to once again position our hearts on God for Spiritual Growth for this Season of Growth…

After church on Sunday, I had some much needed & anticipated time with “my boys.” They are always such a great parallel for me as I navigate through life on this walk of faith with my heavenly father. Well no-one has to explain to you that a 4 month old and a 2 year old (24 months this weekend!) are both in a time growth… Their growth has some similarities of our spiritual growth in God that I started to pick up on this week…

1. First, their growth is agressive.

Yes, you guessed it, they grow fast - It seems like just the other day I was coming home with lil Isaac and to this this weekend he will be a whopping 730 days old! They don’t think about it, it just happens as they naturally focus on LIFE. We grow fast to - if we are focused on LIFE (like my boys are), it comes naturally as we focus on the source of LIFE that is, Jesus… LIFE naturally has a way of growing things…

2. Second, Their growth is improved by their diet.

These boys can eat, especially my youngest, Josiah (aka - Siah or JD). This boy is four months old, but BIG. He is in the 95 Percentile of babies and is currently moving into 9 month old clothing… (Pray for me) But there is a reason that he is so big… His appetite is HUGE! The boy eats and eats and eats some more… We are like that as well - when we consume more of God’s: Word, Prayer, Worship, Steps of Faith, Faithfulness, and all spiritual disciplines we GROW.

3. Third, Their growth is developing by faith

These little guys try something new everyday… Whether it is: Sitting-Up, Rolling Over, Crawling, Running, Jumping, etc. they are always trying something new and it always first merits much trial and error. Trial, because they are stepping out trying if for the first time without even knowing how to do it. Error, because it usually results in error at first, but always ends in success because they never let up… Always believing that the next step is going to be the right step… No analogy required for us…

These two little guys have shown me spiritual growth (or at least three aspects of my own).

I hope they are GOoD examples for you too…

Have a great Week,

GROW GOD!

DC Car Show

DC Car Show

This past weekend Isaac and I got some good ole’ guy time at the Washington DC Auto Show

We had a great time and saw some amazing vehicles as we scoured the area checking in with the latest styles and all the newest models.

I am not sure what it is about cars that can put men of all ages into high gear. As you can probabally imagine Isaac was no exception as we moved from front-seat to front-seat for hours - snapping proud photos all the way…

It must be tied to speed, racing, or winning (or some combination) that keeps our engines revved up… Go Figure… Men & Cars & Racing…

One verse that I to refer to often is out of 2 Timothy 4:7 that appropriately states in a manly tone, “I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Don’t know what your race may be right now but as we all run together (Male and Female) (Taryn tells me that girls like cars too…) lets run for God, run to finish, and yes run to WIN!

Hope you are off to a Winning Week!

Go God!

Pastor D.

Also, Below are some pics of Isaac getting checking out some his favorites at the show…

The Warm Little Boy…

The Warm Little Boy...

OK, I have a theory - It has been really cold outside the last few days, so maybe lil’ JD is just really smart and senses that it is cold and realizes that it would be a favorable decision on his part to stay inside his mommy (Where it is very warm - 98.5 degrees to be exact…) until the conditions are more benefitial…

Ok so I am going crazy too! No sense in delaying my impatient thougths - I want to meet my son, there is no harm in admitting that, right?

Patience is a virture that cannot wait to be formed…

“I am sure that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it on until it is finished on the Day of Christ Jesus.” Phil. 1:6 (GN)

In all of our lives, there is always something that seems to be on hold. It is just important that you (Like Me) keep it in the perspective that God is in control and that He will complete what He started in each one of us… (Just as His Word promises…)

Thought of the day: WHAT GOD STARTS, HE FINISHES

I’ll keep ya posted and hopfully we will hear something when it gets warmer - I mean when He Finishes…

D

PS - Needless to say - We are looking forward to a Great Weekend!!!
PSS - The Other Warm Little boy pictured above is my son Isaac - He was to next best thing to taking a picture of Taryn’s Belly - which she strongly opposed

Not Here Yet…

Not Here Yet...

Still Waiting for Big Mr. JD to Arrive!!!

No sign of him yet today anyway, as I feel that 40 weeks of waiting 10 trips to the doctor and three trips to the hospital should be enough - one more trip is all it takes…

The Patience Building Saga Continues…

John 13:7 “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

2 Corinthians 1:9 “(This Happened)… So we might learn to trust, not in ourselves, but in God.”

Thought of the Day: When God Delays, He Knows Best!

Photo Above: Isaac and I on the look-out for JD’s Arrival!!! Waiting Patiently…

Isaac’s Fresh Start in his New Bed…

Isaac's Fresh Start in his New Bed...

Isaac is having many new experiences lately…

Just in the past month he has experienced: Snow, Many new words (Including: my least favorite “no” and my favorite “Happy” or “Habby”), reading new books, throwing (and now throwing only balls,), even his first “real” Christmas (He was a very good boy this year!).

Another thing that he experienced this week was the introduction of a Big Boy Bed! Yes, I know he is growing up rather fast. He got him a toddler bed so that his little brother (Still Not Here Yet!!! but could be any minute!!!) J.D. could have his Baby Bed

Well last night Isaac took a tumble - while sleeping - yes I know what you are thinking - so lets move on… Of course the whole house woke in a panic as we heard our little boy hit the floor with a thud (don’t worry it is only about one foot off the ground and he has bigger falls than this on a daily basis!)

Ok - here is where I am headed - Once we calmed him down we were hesitant to put him back in the bed (even though he has not fallen out of bed yet after several times sleeping in the Big Boy Bed). After Reasoning and prayer - we decided to put him back in his bed, because if we did not, he would have been scared of it!

Where am I going with this? Just there - If we have failed in a certain area of our lives what would God want us (His Children) to do? Get back up and try it again… Like the ole expression “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again!”

After preparing for this weekend’s New Year’s Message I have had to process this in my own life as well… as I did I came across this verse from the message bible (I think you will like it…)

“God gives a fresh start to those ready to quit.” Ps. 145:14 (Mes)

I like that - God gives a fresh start - Right When We Are Ready to Quit… That speaks well of me sometimes - right when I feel like I have fallen out of my bed one to many times in life - Fresh Start Happens!

As for Isaac - He and I slept well last night after his tumble knowing that God was in control and that Isaac had a fresh start in his New Bed…

Rejoice…

Rejoice...

I am having a Great Day! Psalms 118:24 states “This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Yes, I had a Great Weekend, Great Services on Sunday at Church, Great time last night hanging out with friends, etc.

These are all great reasons for me to have a great day, but they are not why I am having such a great day today… The reason I am having such a great day is that Taryn and Isaac are coming back in town Today at 2:26pm (which will be 6 days 3 hours and 14 minutes since they left on Tuesday.) I am so glad that they had a great trip in Louisiana with friends and family and the Women’s Conference that Taryn attended but I can’t wait to get them back home today

Today is a great day for me as I pray it is for you as well. Afterall, it is the day that HE has made – Rejoice!

Thank God they’re back!

Bless You,

David

Reaching Out Our Hands

Reaching Out Our Hands

We had another great weekend at Church on Sunday as I am so fired-up about this new series that we have started called “Good Relationships Are No Accident.” The basic premise is that Truly Good Relationships don’t just happen “Accidentally,” they happen when we are “intentional” about them.

My son Isaac was the star of the weekend for me as he did something that made me so proud – and it just so happens that it is right along the lines of this series and my first message as well – and it goes something like this:

One of the wonderful members of our church came up to me after service just bragging on my son. So like any proud father I listened intently to what he did to impress her so much. She said that her son was having a hard time adjusting to the Children’s Ministry Area and being away from mom and dad. She also said that this has been a problem each Sunday and that they were not really sure what to do about it accept to just keep trying again and again each Sunday until he gets used to it. She went on to say that this Sunday started out no differently and her son was having a hard time again. Then (This is where it gets really good) she told me that in the midst of this difficult time, my son (Proud Mom & Dad!) went over to the entrance to the children’s area and reached out his hand to grab the other boy’s hand pulling him into the children’s area to play. The two boys then held hands and walked over to the play area to be with the other kids (Isn’t it beautiful!). From that point forward the other little boy had no problem in the children’s area for the rest of the time. (Go God!)

As I reflect further on that, I realize that the interaction between those two little boys is probably a good example for all of us. Here are two questions that may help you along as I have found that both of them yield a pretty immediate response in our minds.

Do this: As soon as you read each question say the first thing that comes to mind:

1. Who around you is having a hard time?
2. In what way could you reach out a hand to make their day better?
3. What else can you do to help them through this difficult time?

Reaching Out Our Hands w/You,

David & Isaac
