Weekend of Adventure…

Weekend of Adventure...

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

We truly do have so much to be thankful for… Taryn, Isaac, Siah and I all spent the day with our local family and some peeps from our church family as well… It was good just to kick back and enjoy the day with good friends (who am I kidding, I was chasing two wild children all day!) Ok, so one day I will kick back and enjoy thanksgiving with the boys, right?

We are headed out again tonite to hangout with some other wonderful DC Metroers – Our Children’s Directors – John and Julie Lee – and EAT! (I am lovin that!) Isaac and Siah will be pumped as well as I picked up a dvd of Wall-E that they will have a front row seat to over at the Lee’s…

Not sure what we have in-store for tomorrow but it has been a Weekend Of Adventure already for the Stines… But it is not over yet…

Which brings me to SUNDAY! GOD @ THE MOVIES – PART 2

IT IS GONNA BE AN ADVENTURE!!! as we talk about THE CONSTANT ADVENTURE!

Mr. Adventure Himself – will help us this weekend in what is my favorite God Movie-Moment of all time…

Can’t Wait…

Can't Wait...

Cannot wait to see my boys and my girl. It has been a long 10 days that I have away from home and I look very forward to getting back to my family and my DC church family…

My trip to LA has been great, but the duration away from Taryn, Isaac, and Siah is a bit long for my liking… It will serve me well to get back and just “eat em’ up” (Our way of sayin’ – “give them a bunch of kisses…”)

One that I will miss much is listed below in the photo with my mom and dad – Mary Catherine – my niece. She is growing up so fast and this past weekend, I had the honor to see her perform in her first official play “Annie.” My Little Actress in the making.

As I look forward to getting back so many things rush to my mind – my church family – church growth – the fun holidays – the incredible DC Metro Staff, etc… I am so looking forward to this exciting time of year with the church and my lil’ family too…

Bless You Guys,

Stay Expectant On God!

This Sunday!

This Sunday!

Hey Guys!

I’m so excited about this weekend! We’re wrapping up our Rated R series with a great message that you won’t want to miss! I have heard from some of you that this series has sparked some great conversations and thoughts about the relationships in your lives. Go God!

Have a Great Friday…

“that i may see…”

I have been praying for vision for 2009, it is during this time of year that God always gives me inspiring vision for the next year… I can already see that He has some great stuff for DC Metro to lay our hands on in 2009, and beyond. Some of it seems so much bigger than I can imagine, but there is something comforting about that – afterall a God Sized vision is “always so much bigger than just us…”

Looking forward to seeing the future and witnessing God’s Dream continue to unfold at DC Metro…

Bless You and Pray for God to continue to invision us all during this season –

Lord, “that i may see…”

Looking Forward,

David

More Relationship Talk – This Weekend!

More Relationship Talk - This Weekend!

Hey guys,

Hope you are all having a great week so far… I have to tell you that I have had a heck of a great week and I am so looking forward to church on Sunday where we will once again be talking about Relationships in our Rated “R” Series…

Have to give a quick plug for a great little place that Taryn and I took the boys to today (Isaac and Siah – dada loves you!). It is a place in Cernterville, Va called COX FARMS… www.coxfarms.com. Very Cool for the kids if you are looking for something fun to do tomorrow with the family. We rode on our first family hayride together, picked out pumpkins, rode down huge slides, got to pet all sorts of farm animals (Well the boys did anyway – and Taryn was quick with the baby wipes…) Get this, We even got to milk our first cow together… What a day…

Looking forward to tomorrow as I will be speaking at the Growth Track Retreat that is going to be in Shrine Mont, Va tomorrow… Pray as I know that God is moving mightily on this great group… Go God!

Hey also if you have not checked out our most recent DC Metro Newsletter I have pasted it below… Also if you would like to receive our monthly e-newsletter just click here and drop in your email address…

See you on SUNDAY!!!

Rated R for Relationships

Quality relationships are one of life’s greatest pleasures, but they do not happen by accident. We are currently enjoying a message series entitled “Rated R for Relationships”. Relationships are one of Pastor David’s favorite topics to preach on, and his passion for this subject is contagious. We have been reminded that loving others well is one of the important things we can do in life, but it is also one of the one most challenging. The first week in this series Pastor David preached the message “Till Death Do Us Part” and we were challenged to be committed to our relationships because our commitments not only show our values, but they shape our lives and destinies.

Then we were treated to Pastor David’s spicy message, “It Really Matters”. This call for purity was so seasoned with humor that were was struck by the truth that there is nothing boring about devoting our minds and bodies to God. We dove into the spiciest book of the Bible, Song of Solomon, to gain understanding about God’s perspective on purity and the pleasure He designed for marriage. Pastor David called for us to be deliberate in the choices we make regarding our relationships, but he also held out hope for restoration to anyone who desires greater purity (Psalm 51:10-13). God is able and willing to cleanse us, change our hearts, and fill us with His Spirit.

The third message in this series (filled with plenty of comic relief including Pastor David acting like Rocky) was “Sparring for Success”. We considered the difference between working through our differences (sparring) and seeking to defeat the other person (boxing). Pastor David shared some godly guidelines that will help us spar instead of box and that will help us grow through our conflicts. If you missed any of these messages, you can check out our podcast at dcmetrochurch.org or pick up a free CD after church. You won’t want to miss the coming weeks when Pastor David will share more biblical insights on developing fun and fulfilling God-centered relationships.

Season of Hope

The Season of Hope is coming! This holiday season DC Metro Church will have the opportunity to show Christ’s love in a practical way through three outreaches. We are excited to have these opportunities to care for others in ways that are meaningful to them. We encourage you to join us in these outreaches:

- Carpenter’s Shelter: We can celebrate Thanksgiving by feeding the homeless on Thanksgiving evening. What better way to thank God for His provision than giving Him our hands to use as His own.

- Kids Helping Kids: This will be our second annual outreach for the Children’s Rescue Center in Liberia, West Africa. (It is great to be involved in second annual events!) We will be collecting new toys for the children who live there. Christmas is much more meaningful when we get to share with those who have so little. This is a great opportunity for our children (and adults) to be used by God to touch the lives of other children for Jesus.

- Southeast White House Outreach: We will be throwing a Christmas party for the kids who are participants in the programs at Southeast White House. What an honor to represent Jesus to these little ones, showing them His love in such a fun, practical way.

MORE DETAILS ON THESE EXCITING OUTREACHES COMING SOON! If you have any questions, contact Julie Lee at julee@dcmetrochurch.org.

Elevate Student Ministries

Elevate kicked off Sunday night youth group on September 21st. All teens from 6th – 12th grade are invited to join in the live music, food, crazy fun, and spiritual encouragement every Sunday night at the Salvation Army in Del Ray. (1804 Mt. Vernon Ave.) The fun begins at 6:00, with doors open at 5:45. David has been sharing a series of messages called “Contraband” which has given the students a great overview of the most important events and themes in the Bible including: Creation, brokenness, promise, rebellion, grace, and eternity. We would love your prayers for this ministry that has the incredible calling of reaching our youth with the countercultural, life altering message of Jesus’ passion. If you have any questions or know anyone interested in coming to Elevate, email David Goochee at dgoochee@dcmetrochurch.org.

A Note From Pastor David

We are so excited to see all the new faces this fall. It brings me great joy to see our DC Metro family growing. This past few weeks I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to preach on one of my favorite topics, relationships. I hope that you are experiencing richness in your relationships as you seek to walk out some of the biblical principles for cultivating God-first relationships. Be sure to invite your friends to experience all that God is doing at DC Metro this fall. Just remember- the best is yet to come… As 1 Corinthians 2:9 reminds us, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those that love Him.”

I love you guys & see you Sunday.

Go God,
Pastor D

Great Jacksonville Visit…

Great Jacksonville Visit...

It has been a great day as I got to spend it hanging out with good friend and Pastor, Joe Champion from Celebration Church in Austin Texas. Joe spoke at the Flex Men’s Conference that I attended tonite at Celebration Church of Jacksonville… Pastor Joe is a fellow LSU Tiger (There is always seem a Louisiana Connection, isnt there…) and he always seems to get me fired-up about church planting… (OK so it does not really take me much to get fired-up about that…)

Nothing quite like a bunch of men getting real before God… It has been a great time in Jacksonville as I have been able to see a lot of old friends and watch their lives continue to go to the next level in their relationship with God… The only thing that comes close to witnessing someone come to Christ, is watching someone get even closer to Him… It was great to see that happening tonite in so many guys at Celebration (young and old).

Although I will sure miss Stovall and the Celebration Crew, I am sure looking forward to getting home tomorrow, as I miss my girl (Taryn) and my two little men… Seems like a lot of travel this Summer, but I am sure looking forward to settling down for a bit to continue getting geared up for another GREAT Fall Season at DC Metro as we all watch God Move Together…

Go God!

Quick Visit to Celebration Church

Quick Visit to Celebration Church

Last night I spoke at Celebration Church in Jacksonville Florida… It was a great night of worship and sharing in God’s Word… I was also able to see many many familiar faces and greet many awesome people (Family and Friends) from Taryn and I’s time in Jacksonville… It is always great to go back to Celebration Church…

It is always good to spend some time with my dear friend Pastor Stovall Weems of Celebration Church… He and his wife Kerri are non-stop supporters of “Building a God-First Culture throughout the DC Metro Area…” He always gets me pumped about the future of Celebration Church and especially DC Metro Church… Go Stovall, You Rock!

I will be heading back to DC on Saturday, but until then I am also checking out a cool men’s conference called FLEX which is held at Celebration… Sounds like it is going to be a great conference, and I’ll keep you posted…

Bless You Guys – Looking forward to a great weekend at DC Metro…

Go God!

David & Taryn Anniversary

David & Taryn Anniversary

I still cannot believe that Taryn and I have been married for six whole years now (and two boys…) (Together for 10!)

It seems like just yesterday I was taking here out to First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach to propose to her… (This is where the pilgrims first dedicated our country to God!, and where Taryn said “yes” to me… ) We officially dedicated our marriage to God here as well… (Aaaahhh shucks!)

Since then, it has been non-stop adventure as we have seen God do amazing things and live in amazing places… Thank God for 6 Great Years of Marriage…

To celebrate, I took her on a “dinner cruise” from Old Town Alexandria up the Potomac River to Georgetown and back down to Old Town. It was great, as we were able to see our Nation’s Capital from a new perspective as it looks so different lit up at night and looking from the water… The best part was our reflection of all the Great things that God has done in our lives and all the great people he has allowed to cross our path and do life with…

Special thanks to Taryn for 6 great years…

That is all for my mushy recap – hope you enjoy – as I know we did…

Go God!

David…

Special Thanks for the sweet photos to Dream Teamer: Heather Behlendorf
