Association Related Churches
I have yet to do a single blog post on the ARC and leaving church on Sunday I just felt that I needed to as it is such a great honor for DC Metro Church to be a part of this incredible organization. Here goes…
The Association of Related Churches (ARC) is an organization of pastors and churches that focuses on building strong relationships between pastors and ministry leaders. The ARC is available to encourage, provide guidance, and help with ministry development for pastors across the nation. The goal of the ARC is to develop and share human and ministry resources to assist in church planting and growth, and to provide wisdom and guidance at no cost to the member churches. Offering counseling with pastors and their wives and staff on a needs basis is also a function of the ARC.
While serving as a senior associate pastor of a large church, Founder Billy Hornsby (and one of DC Metro Church’s Presbyters) developed a small group ministry that became a model used to train thousands of pastors around America. Several years later, Billy visited Greg Surratt at Seacoast Church in Charleston, SC and was moved by how effective and relevant their Sunday services were. He approached Greg about planting churches that combined the philosophy of the Seacoast Sunday service with the relational dynamics of small groups. Greg expressed how it had been his desire to plant 2000 churches across America. The two decided that it made a great fit and that day the vision for the ARC was born.
In 2000, these two joined together with Dino Rizzo, Scott Hornsby, Chris Hodges and Rick Bezet to form ARC. Chris and Rick had both made plans to plant a church. With Seacoast supplying $25,000 each towards their start-up funds, Chris and Rick utilized these funds for the new church plants. Chris planted a church in Birmingham, AL and Rick Bezet in Conway, AR in early 2001. In return, they were asked to re-invest that money into church planting making it available for future church planters. They continued giving 2% of their church’s income to ARC.
At the end of 2008, ARC had planted 75 churches in 27 states. In 2009, we planted over 55 churches, the equivalent of a new plant every 7 days. In 2010 we hope to plant over 100 churches! Over the last 8 years, the combined missions giving for these 130 churches exceeded $40 million! How incredible is it for us as a church to be able to leverage our missions dollars to reach more, further, and greater for the Kingdom of God! Congrats DC Metro!!
In 2009 I was asked to become part of the ARC “A” Team which is a group of 12 Lead Pastors from ARC Church Plants from across the USA, who help select, train, and coach new church planters. It is truly an honor to be a part of this group of world class leaders. After-all, DC Metro is an ARC Church Plant (September 7, 2007) that gives to the ARC to build the church across the US, and around the world…
Together, We Plant Life!
Go DC Metro Church!
& Go God!

Hey Guys,
It’s Monday, and we are coming out of another great weekend at DC Metro Church with the kickoff of our Warrior II Series. In fact, this weekend, we also saw the greatest attendence in DC Metro Church’s History! Seems like I have been allowed to say that pretty regularly as God continues to add to the number of people that have been led to call DC Metro Church their HOME CHURCH (We Love You Guys!)!
THINKING OUTSIDE OUR WORLD – Lately, I have been thinking about how pumped I am that DC Metro Church is involved in planting churches all over the country… In Fact, Already this year, we have been able to help financially support 16 church plants across the US!!! Go GOD!
As I was thinking about how pumped I am to be a part of this, I was reminded, once again, of the fact that “We Are A Church Plant!” Although I’ve always known DC Metro would be “a church plant that plants churches”, to think about how many churches we have helped to launch already this year is quite staggering… My other thought lately is that I feel as though it is something that I personally don’t talk about enough on Sundays or in my blog. Afterall, this is quite amazing, a church plant, planting churches, that plant churches…
With that said, I wanted to take a sec to share with the greater DC Metro Family all the lives that you are impacting all over the country through your prayers and your faithful giving. Below is a list of the amazing new churches that you and I have helped to plant in communities all over the country through the ARC (www.relatedchurches.com). The list contains the name, location, launch date, and the incredible church planting pastors that you have helped to support…
Go God!

As A Pastor I often think about why people don’t get connected and become planted in a local church. This is something that has always bothered me mainly because I always get to hear the excuses on why people don’t get planted. God knows it is the best thing for us as He is very clear, the only way we can truly flourish in life is to become planted in God’s House.
Here are five that I hear most often:
5. Hurt By A Past Church Experience. OK so this may be the only somewhat genuine one, but at the same time it seems to be used a little to often to be truly genuine all the time. In fact, I think most of the time, this is the more common translation – (translation - Another person in church has said or done something that I have not approved of and I am now offended by it. They do not know that they have hurt me, but now since I do not know who else to take it out on, I will blame God and since I cannot see Him I will take it out on His Church.) As my son Isaac would say – Ouchy…
4. It’s Not Deep Enough (Don’t get me started…) (Here Goes Anyway - Translation – “I need to go to a place where I understanding nothing – nor can I apply it - most all of the time.”) (Translation #2 – “I need to go to the place where someone else will eat for me since I cannot and will not feed myself…”)
3. Can’t Seem To Find A Church That Is “Like” (meaning “Identical to“) My Old Church. (Get over it, move on – God HAS! (by the way that is why you are no longer there, He has MOVED YOU ON – “Now just savor the good ole’ days for just a second – and then get moving – NOW!” ~ Jesus)
2. Church Is Boring. (This one is hilarious once we realize that we “are” the church…) By the way – DC Metro is the most non-boring church on the planet. (If you are into that kind of non-boring stuff…)
1. I Do Church On My Own. (Fold your hands, “Here is the church, there is the steeple, open the doors and see all the PEOPLE!” Simply put, you cannot “be the church” unless you are connected with other believers… again, who is teaching this stuff?.?)
Forget all these silly excuses and get planted somewhere…
Psalm 92:13 “planted in the house of the LORD,
they will flourish in the house of our God.”

I hope that you are already off to a great New Year as we shake off 2008 and focus in on a fresh start in 2009!
Its about this time of year that “all things become new” and a new openness to change begins to take shape in our lives… With that said, we also have some exciting changes coming for DC Metro Starting This Weekend as we go to 2 Services! Starting this Sunday January 4th, DC Metro will be a church with two service options 9:30am and 11:00am! This is in a response to our need to add more seats and our desire as a church to reach more people, lets join in prayer that God would do something incredible in all of our lives as we enter this new year…
Speaking of doing some thing amazing in our lives… We are starting a bold new series where we will all ask ourselves the same question??? How would my life be different if I only had 30 Days to Live? Over the last several weeks I have been challenged to ask myself the same question and I look forward to the life change that God will bring us each week as we look to Him for the answer… Invite those around you who are looking for New Life in this New Year – and lets all believe God for an incredible kick off this weekend…

In town to help us kick things off as we ramp up for 2 services is a missions team from Celebration Church in Jacksonville, Fl. These fired-up guys and gals have already been a huge blessing to the church as they have been doing ministry all over the Metro Area this entire week… – passing out invitation cards, feeding the homless, and fixing up the church office…

So if you get a chance this weekend – give these great friends a big high five – the deserve it… Also – check out their great blog as they share about all their great experiences here…
We pray that this is the start to Your Best Year Yet…
Bless You,
David, Taryn, Isaac, & Siah

What a great weekend we had at DC Metro this morning…
Pastor Stovall and Kerri were in town and Stovall gave a powerful and timely word on faith… Especially how to trust God, even when it does not make sense… It should make for a great small group discussion in all of the metro groups this week…
Thank God for the timeliness of God’s Word as He meets us exactly where we are on Sunday Mornings…
Bless You all and check out our podcast it you missed it this morning…
We will be picking back up in our GOD AT THE MOVIES Series as we officially kick-off the Christmas Season next Sunday…
Bless You guys and have a great week…

Can you believe it is December already?
I am always surprised at how this great month has a way of sneaking up on us before we know it…
With that said, I am looking forward to an incredible time as we have more things happening in December than any other month so far this year… To start receiving our Monthly Newsletter and Events add your email to the enewsletter page by clicking here…
To kick off the month we have our 1st Thursday Service – where we will be sharing communion together as a church family… I will also be sharing from God’s Word about a message I am calling – Coming Home For The Holidays…
Speaking of Coming Home For The Holidays – We have some Great Friends coming in town this weekend… In Fact, my dear friend and one of the Presbyters of DC Metro Church – Pastor Stovall Weems and his awesome wife Kerri will be in-town this weekend, and Taryn and I are so fired-up about it…
Many of you know that Pastor Stovall is not only one of our Presbyters, but he is also MY Pastor (We all need a Pastor!).
He and His Wife Kerri Lead One of the Fastest Growing Churches in the Country, Celebration Church of Jacksonville Florida. They have a national audience through their television ministry, but they always make a point to be with us on this first Sunday in December each year… Go God!
You do not want to miss this action packed weekend, Dec. 7th, as we welcome our dear friends Stovall and Kerri Weems to DC Metro!
See You There…

We had another great outreach this weekend at the Friendship Firehouse Festival!
Pictured above are two of my favorite FIREMEN – Isaac (my two year old) and his good buddy, Austin (DC Metro’s Worship Leader)…
There was lot’s of faces painted and about 1,000 water bottles passed out!
Taryn and I were out of town this past weekend at a Pastor’s Conference at Next Level Church in Fort Meyers, Fl with our good friends Pastor Matt Keller and his wife Sarah… Even though the weekend was very inspiring about all that God is doing at DC Metro, we so missed being at this outreach…
It is always good for a leader to see that things go on just fine when they are out of town… Go Dream Team, you guys never cease to amaze me!!!
Go God!!
PS – More outreaches to come right away as we continue to spread the luv (His Luv that is..) by “Building a God-First Culture through out DC Metro!”
