I love the thought about “being planted” that seems to re-occur throughout the scriptures. It is as though God is continually urging us to become “planted” in His House… My favorite is in Psalms 94:13 “Those who plant themselves in the house of the Lord will FLORISH!” What a promise - and one that has become all too true in my own life… At DC Metro Church “being planted” is a simple process we call membership…
Wanted to let you know that we are having a Membership Reception tomorrow night for all of those who would like to make DC Metro their home church… It should be an exciting night of hearing about the past, present, and future of DC Metro, as well as meeting the staff and some great members of our Dream Team (Leadership Team)…
If you would like to attend this reception tomorrow night (Thursday Night from 7 - 9pm @ The Reserve at Potomac Yards (Directly across Jeff Davis Hwy (Rt. 1) from the Theater) please RSVP Julie Lee at julee@dcmetrochurch.org. Childrens ministry will be avaliable for ages 6 weeks to 5 years… And dinner will be provided… yummy!!!
This is sure to be a great evening…
See You There…

This past week I had the wonderful opportunity of visiting my family back in good ole’ Louisiana… We were able to get some good family time together as my grandfather “JW” celebrated his 90th birthday! What a milestone… We had a very cool party at a place that my family fondly has called “The Camp” for the last thirty years… It was a great time as we stayed out at “The Camp” for the rest of the week (Taryn, Isaac, Josiah, and me) just hangin-out, building memories with family members, riding around in “The Boat”, and doing some much needed Fishing!!! (Ok maybe not everyone “needs” to do some fishing, but I do…)
Fishing, it is somewhat theraputic and extremly tranquil. On the contrast there is nothing quite like “hooking the big one.” As I was fishing, God began to remind me of his words in Matthew 4:19 “Come follow me, and I will make you fishers of men…”
I love that verse as it so clearly tells us what He is in the process of teaching us to do as we follow Him, “Become fishers of men”. Often I have thought, what does that mean become, “Fishers of Men?”
I think it is real simple, He is teaching us how to BE THE BAIT! In other words, the reason that the fish, pictured above, bit on the hook, was that I had some tasty bait on the hook… It may not have been attractive to me (aka. our own lives some time…) but it was attractive to this fish - - and he bit “hook, line, and sinker”…
As we grow in Christ and our relationship with Him, He makes us attractive to the world in our lifestyle, attitudes, emotions, and joy… and ultimately - - become the bait!
Heavy, what does He want us to do with our lives? Be The Bait!
Love You Guys,
Hooked on God,
D

I am so excited about our opportunity to do another 2nd Annual Event!
Last year we had an awesome time at Friendship Firehouse Festival as we passed out free water bottles (meeting the felt need) and did facepainting (for free)!
We’re so excited that we’re able to do it again this year!
If you want to volunteer to help out, contact Julie Lee at julee@dcmetrochurch.org.

I know what you are thinking - wasn’t he just born? Well you’re right, he was. We just wanted to draw a little attention to our newest little man by announcing his first 6 Month Birthday!
He is the man - almost “A MAN…” We are so proud of our little boy as he is such a BIG Boy… Doctors say that Siah is in the 95th percentile of size!!! Whopper!!! In fact, he is only about 6 lbs. lighter than his big brother (25 months old). Lets just say I have BIG plans for this little man on the starting defensive line of TC Williams High School… (Dreamin’ - Or maybe even LSU!) Go God!
All of that said, this little guy seems to be a really friendly, animated (he sighs all the time - hence name…), and (here comes the proud dad in me…) very athletic little man (Any dad would say that right…) - OK - I love this little guy and I am so glad that he is growing up in church with all of you, ready to change the world…
Go God!
and Go Siah!!!

In this Enjoying Life Series we have traveled through the book of Philippians as we have studied how God desires us to Enjoy Our Lives, NO MATTER WHAT!
Last week we learned about complaining and how it negatively affects our lives by reading Philippians 2: 14-15 which states, “Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.”
Last weekend we also started a 21 Day “No Complaints” Challenge, where we will be going 21 days making “No Complaints” in our lives… Wheeew… What a month it is going to be as the challenge is not necessarily an easy one - but this I know - It will be a fulfilling one that draws us closer to God in the process…
If you missed last weeks message, or need a refresher already (I think I do…), you can listen to it online by clicking on the podcast button on the right.
Here is a quick recap of the points:
HOW TO CONQUER COMPLAINING:
1. ADMIT THAT IT IS A PROBLEM
“A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance.” Prov. 28:13 (LB)
2. ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY OWN LIFE
“Some people ruin themselves by their own stupid mistakes and then blame the Lord.” Prov. 19:3 (GN)
3. DEVELOP AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE
“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I Thess. 5:18
4. LOOK FOR GOD’S HAND IN CIRCUMSTANCES
“This small and temporary trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory, much greater than the trouble. So we fix our attention, not on the things that are seen, but on the things that are unseen. What is seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever.” 2 Cor. 4:17-18 (GN)
5. PRACTICE SPEAKING POSITIVELY
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Eph. 4:29
Looking forward to pursuing this challenge with you as we learn how to ENJOY OUR LIVES - No Matter What!
Pastor David
Bonus: This is sure to jump start your joy over the next 21 days…

I am pumped to realize that we are doing our very first “Second Annual” outreach event this coming Saturday. DC Metro will be attending the Alexandria Birthday Celebration. At the outreach we will be meeting the “Felt Need” of many, many, many people as we will be handing out free Water Bottles to the community. After all one major felt need of everyone on a hot day is nice cold bottle of water (candy for kids too!).
This random act of kindness is sure to bless many people as we reach out to our community and show the world that the Church is not just cooped up within four walls on Sunday, but rather being the hands and feet of Jesus in the community…
Get ready for a great event as we look for God to do Great Things on Saturday and are positioned to invite many people to church on Sunday!!!
Go God!

I still cannot believe that Taryn and I have been married for six whole years now (and two boys…) (Together for 10!)
It seems like just yesterday I was taking here out to First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach to propose to her… (This is where the pilgrims first dedicated our country to God!, and where Taryn said “yes” to me… ) We officially dedicated our marriage to God here as well… (Aaaahhh shucks!)
Since then, it has been non-stop adventure as we have seen God do amazing things and live in amazing places… Thank God for 6 Great Years of Marriage…
To celebrate, I took her on a “dinner cruise” from Old Town Alexandria up the Potomac River to Georgetown and back down to Old Town. It was great, as we were able to see our Nation’s Capital from a new perspective as it looks so different lit up at night and looking from the water… The best part was our reflection of all the Great things that God has done in our lives and all the great people he has allowed to cross our path and do life with…
Special thanks to Taryn for 6 great years…
That is all for my mushy recap - hope you enjoy - as I know we did…
Go God!
David…
